Why Wait to be Chosen When You Can Choose Yourself?

In a world where opportunities seem elusive and competition is fierce, it's easy to fall into the trap of waiting to be chosen. Whether it's waiting for that dream job, a chance at success, or recognition in your field, many people spend their lives hoping for someone to pick them. But what if I told you that the key to a fulfilling life and success lies in choosing yourself? It's time to step out of the shadows and take control of your own destiny.

You're the CEO of Your Life

The concept of choosing yourself is grounded in the idea that you are the CEO of your own life. Just like a CEO makes strategic decisions for their company, you should make choices that benefit your life and well-being. This means not waiting for someone else to grant you permission or validation. Instead, take charge of your destiny and make decisions that align with your values, goals, and aspirations.

Overcoming the Fear of Rejection

One of the primary reasons people wait to be chosen is the fear of rejection. The idea of putting yourself out there, whether it's for a new career, a creative project, or personal goals, can be intimidating. However, it's essential to realize that rejection is a natural part of life, and it should not deter you from choosing yourself. One of the earliest lessons I learned while building my own businesses and platforms, was that I needed to get real comfortable with the word "NO". I would even say it was a lesson I learned as a teenager who was auditioning for roles at the local community theater. Talk about rejection! Every successful person has faced rejection at some point, but they didn't let it define them. They chose to keep pushing forward. So get comfortable with being uncomfortable and with hearing no.

Be Confident!

Choosing yourself requires a healthy dose of self-belief. You must have confidence in your abilities and the belief that you are worthy of success. This doesn't mean you have to be arrogant or self-centered, but it does mean recognizing your own potential and your capacity to make things happen. We can be humble and kind women, while also believing that we are capable and able to do the things that we set out to do. I have had the priviledge of working at the largest family law firm in Southern California. My colleagues were some of the most incredible women who were also kick-ass attorneys. They had to study and pass a really hard exam in order to do what they do. They had to believe they could do it....and they did and still do. You don't have to pass a state exam to have some self belief in yourself. Cultivate a positive self-image and focus on your strengths to bolster your self-belief.

Taking Initiative

Listen, we don't really love risk, but this is what it is. Taking initiative involves some risk. Waiting to be chosen often involves waiting for opportunities to land in your lap. No offense, bestie, but more often than not, they won't. Choosing yourself is about actively seeking out and creating opportunities. Don't sit idly by and hope for your life to change (or you will have more money, time, insert your favorite reason to wait here); take initiative and be proactive in pursuing your goals. Whether it's networking, seeking out mentors, or starting your own projects, being an active participant in your journey is key.

Authenticity and Personal Fulfillment

When you choose yourself, you are making a conscious decision to lead an authentic life. You are not constrained by the expectations or desires of others. Instead, you prioritize your own passions, interests, and dreams. You get to put on display the real you. You are magical. It should bring you absolute joy to be yourself and to adore the life you are living. As women, we should enjoy our life, and it should be ours. We should not give away our autonomy, hoping someone will choose us. (And please, for the love of all things pink, do not wait for a man to choose you or tell you how you should live your life or build your business). This authenticity leads to greater personal fulfillment, as you are more in tune with who you are and what you want out of life.

Inspiring Others

By choosing yourself, you become an inspiration to others. Believe it or not, others are watching you. Even if you hear crickets on your social media pages, or you don't have any clicks yet on the services you offer, or it seems like no one cares about what you are doing.....they are watching. When people witness your courage and determination to forge your path, they are encouraged to do the same. Your actions can motivate those around you to break free from the chains of waiting to be chosen and empower them to choose themselves.

Choosing yourself is a powerful act of self-empowerment and personal growth. It involves taking control of your own destiny, overcoming the fear of rejection, embracing self-belief, taking initiative, and leading an authentic life. By choosing yourself, you not only transform your own life but also become an inspiration to others. So, stop waiting to be chosen and start choosing yourself – your dreams and aspirations are worth it, and you have the power to make them a reality.
